Libertarian Short Course
The Short Course In Libertarianism Join The Alaska Libertarian Party A wonderful way to learn about Libertarianism is to watch the "America: Freedom To Fascism" DVD You can purchase it here or call one of the Libertarians listed on our contact page and they may have a free copy for you. The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States. If you are tired of politics as usual, the Libertarian Party just might be for you. Libertarians believe in, and pursue, personal freedom while maintaining personal responsibility. Libertarians strongly oppose any government interfering in their personal, family and business decisions. Essentially, we believe all Americans should be free to live their lives and pursue their interests as they see fit as long as they do no harm to another. In a nutshell, we are advocates for a smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom. Alaska Libertarians support smaller and less intrusive government. We also support property and privacy rights as well as lower taxes. Libertarians are strong supporters of Civil Rights and the Constitution. The Alaska Libertarian Party is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who believe in certain basic human rights which cannot be denied by government or others. The Libertarian philosophy is one of Live and Let Live. Fallacies 1. Libertarians are all a bunch of atheists! A. Not true. Libertarians support the individuals right to believe and worship as they choose. Libertarianism isn't about religion it's about the philosophy of freedom and liberty. There are many Christian Libertarians as well as other religions. Aaron Russo was a well known Jewish Libertarian. I don't know if Lawrence Vance is a Libertarian however he seems to understand and teach Libertarian principles from a Christian perspective. Consider Rose Wilder Lane who's writing makes her one of mothers of Libertarianism. 2. Libertarians are a bunch of druggies! A. Libertarians believe the individual owns his life and body. As such he has the right to do with them as he so chooses as long as he endangers no one else. Therefore Libertarians support decriminalizing drugs. Why should the American taxpayer bear the burden of enforcement and incarceration. Why should we endure the police state tactics that are engendered from the war on drugs and the abuse of asset forfeiture laws. (See Aron Russo's movie "Mad As Hell") 3. Libertarianism is a new idea! A. Not so! Thomas Jefferson is considered the original American Libertarian. The roots of Libertarianism go back much farther than that. Specifically the Renaissance and the Natural Rights Of Man. Many concepts go back to Plato and Aristotle. 4. Libertarians are terrorists! A. Nonsense! Lately a few news commentators are making such innuendos. The Libertarian philosophy is non-violent. The attempt is to link Libertarians to terrorism because of Libertarian support for the Bill Of Rights and Constitution. Libertarians oppose the Real ID, Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, Home Grown Terrorist Act and a plethora of other unconstitutional law. 5. Libertarians are against the environment! A. Not so! We all want clean air and water. Libertarians support the environment through the application of private property and trespass law. You never have to worry about your property being confiscated for a park or through eminent domain for the benefit of another in a Libertarian society. There is an Environmental Scientist on the ALP Board.
